VegasPredator, Ive asked this several times and got mixed responses. How do you like the close ratio gears on the dunes? Im looking at getting the 06 GNCC which has Troy Lee gear box, want to try and make sure Im not going to spend all the time shifting and never be in the right gear.....

I have no prob with the ratio..... with sandstars it hooks up good and pulls hard the only thing I have to do is put a Rev box in it hits the limiter pretty quick just dont know what brand to buy anybody have any suggestions or opinons?

Rath Raceing has one on their website, and then HPD has one on theirs. my dealer recomended one but i cant remember the name, he races with it. im sure someone will chime in

I also think the close ration gear box is fine. I ride mine in stricktly dunes and it works great. From what i hear, the Vortex has the best CDI. That is the one i want to get.

I can say from experiance that the pred is a great machine. If you would like to have the best riding and awsome power, go with a ds650. The ds650 rides like a cadilac and takes comfort to the next level. I only weigh 140lbs so I could only think of how good it would ride if I were heavier. But if you don't like the ds look than a pred is the next choice in my book. By the way not to be bragging on the ds, but my pred is hopped up a little bit and it still won't take out my stock dsbaja. Thats my offerings, good luck with your new machine. By the way, I have nothing to say bad about the pred, I do love it because it is a little easier to handle. RUSS

Hey JDV,
I just saw your post and wanted to reply. I bought an ’05 Pred TLD from a Big Number 1 in Birmingham, Alabama. I LOVE the quad but the service at the dealer was a little less than what I hoped for. After the sale, the salesman acted as if he didn’t want to deal with me anymore. I was asking about parts like chain oil, filters, helmet, ect and he seemed too busy to answer my questions. You would think that after someone drops $6k on a machine, you would be more than happy to answer a few questions.
Anyway, the quad is great. I added a Pure Polaris slip on (quite core, no disks), sent my carb to Nicholas Cycle to work his magic and rejett it, and added a K&N clamp on filter. It is a different quad from when I bought it. A lot quicker in the lows and mids. I have raced a few Hondas and Yamahas and I don’t beat everyone but no one gets more than a few quad lengths away. Plenty fast enough for me.
As far as maintenance is concerned, I never had on ounce of trouble out of it. I even flipped it 6 days after I bought it and still no problems. Everyone here will tell you to change the oil after the first hour of riding and make sure you do that. I went a step further by draining the PS-4 and adding conventional oil during the break in. After a few more oil changes, I switched to Mobil 1 0W-40. After I run through the mud and wash it off, I always oil the chain and lube the fittings. No problems at all and I have about 50+ hours on it.
