Default getting an 05 troy lee pred this week, questions,,,,,.

i believe i got a good deal on a 05 troy lee pred for 5,050 out the door, regular 05 predator for 4,800, down south here. so i'm geared to pick it up this weekend. any comments from you all about the price or the quad itself.? please feel free.

** question; of all the pred owners out there, what are your likes/ dislikes, any must haves for it right off the bat.?
i'm 40 yrs old, and have been of dirt machines from a child, currently riding a kx 500 and a 04 sp 700.
i look forward to any ideas/ comments you all may have, i need some feedback rather soon,,,,,,,,,
thanks in advance, joseph

Sounds like a decent price.....as long as you actually pay that much....and they don't add on stuff......

I don't have any dislikes that I can think of right now.....they are a good machine. You will love it.....the suspension is great, and so is the power.

Mods that I reccommend.......Choose a pipe(tell me your price range and I'll tell you your best performing pipe).......nicholas cycle carb mods.......twin air clamp on filter.

Regardless of which sport quad you have, there are two things I look into first. 1) Nerfbars, especially those with wider pegs that have kicked up ends, and 2) Swingarm skid for trailriders, the stockers are universally junk. I also like belly skids, really helps save the frame over time.

I wish I could get close to that price in the great land of communism, I mean California. $5999 OTD for 05 TLD if I want to drive 7.5 hours one way, $6600 OTD if I only want to drive 2 hours one way. Wont do business locally, dont trust them and they wont deal. Dont know if youve seen it or your dealer cant get it, but the 06 special edition is pretty sweet, same mechanically as TLD with some extras. Probably cost you around $1000 more than a 05 TLD though. First thing I would do with the TLD is slap on a Pure Polaris canister, maybe drop in a K&N and a CDI box to help close the 4th to 5th gear gap. Probably about all I'll do to mine when I get it. Enjoy your new ride!

Like said above skids are usually junk.......but the predator has great skid plates.......the underbelly one is a little thin, and small.......but the swing arm skid plate is really thick and really hard plastic.

That sounds like a REALLY good price.
I think you will like the Predator. Its got plenty of speed and power, the only thing I personally dont like about it is the way it fits me. I feel more stretched-out on the Predator (I have to reach more for the handlebars) than I do on a TRX450R or a YFZ 450.
The first thing Id do is put an aftermarket exhaust on it. My brother gained a lot on his '04 TLD by going to the Pure Polaris slip-on. With the stock silencer it just doesnt have the bark to it that a sport quad should have. With the PP silencer it leaves no doubt to the fact that its here and it means business.
I would also invest in some nerf bars incase your feet should happen to slip off the pegs.

Welcome to the club Joseph...not the Predator club, but the more exclusive Predator Owners Over 40 Club (I'm 41 and I think you and I are the only members so far).

WOW, if that price is the true OTD price, I'd say you did real good. As far as mods go, I don't think you really need to do anything for a while. As mentioned If you're hellbent on doing something though, Slip-on or full exhaust, air filter and jetting are the normal starting points. That should add some descent gains without breaking the bank.
