cracked piston on 98 400 sport how to get back running??
#1
The piston on my 98 400 sport cracked. I took it in and was told it needs a new piston rings bearings seals and bored etc, the cases were fine no cracks. All said and done the shop I took it too said 15-1600$$ to fix. That seems awfull high to me for a cracked piston and to bore it out, or am I just out of touch with reality. I went and picked it up and it is all taken apart so i can ship the engine anywhere. I just was wondering who can do the work and a ball park figure. This was a great running quad and I would like it to be again but I don't want to put near that much $$$ into it.
Thanks for any help!

You can't go wrong with Rick Ritter. I just got my 400 back a couple weeks ago. He did a complete rebuild of the motor, a port job, and added a stud girdle for way less than what your dealer quoted.Plus, he's always available for any tuning advice you may need. All in all, a real class act. The best out there in my opinion.

Defenite on Rick. He has done all of my work and has the best customer service. Don't quote me on this, but if your bottom end is good...you should be able to ship it and get a new piston, cylinder honed or bored, and gaskets for around $300. If you want it assembled you will be looking at more. Hope this helps.

You could get a rebuilt crank, all new bearings and seals, a port job, piston, and assembly for less than what your shop quoted you. Dont take it to him for sure. Rick Ritter all the way!
