"Cold Weather" carb technical bulletin
#11
I got the same 'update' to mine last spring, but I don't beleive the installed any new jets or anything. It ran better for awhile, but this past winter it was just as bad as before. It takes forever for it to warm up and only does it up to mid-throttle and not at full throttle. Which is no good for me as I very rarely ever get above 20 mph.
I've thought about taking it to a different dealer, but it's a pretty good drive from where I live. Anyone have any other suggestions? The status quo is not acceptable, I like the bike otherwise but I do most of my riding in the winter for hunting and other reasons and am not going to put up much more with it.

Hello, I had problems with my 05 Trailboss 330 idling in cold weather. I was told to adjust the air screw. Before I did that, I did mess with the cable up on the handlebars (like 2manytoys had mentioned) and that corrected my problem right away.

Mine wouldn't even start when it was below zero (32 F) but now it runs at -10C (not sure what that is in fahrenheit) . What I did was get a new battery, turn the mixture screw(richer) by one turn and install a bigger main jet(I know this is for off idle running , but I run alot in very cold weather after a warm up in a heated building). This has improved my overall drivability but not to the point where I trust it to start in very cold weather> Which is a bummer considering how much fun it is in the snow!!!

You dont want to adjust the idle with the adjuster that is up by the handlebars in the cable housing, that is for adjusting the amount of freeplay in the cable. The idle adjustment is on the carb .

Mine has never had a problem starting. My old '98 SP 500 would start at zero temp's. with no choke. My 600 does need to be choked, but my dad used it hunting this past year where it sat outside in single digit temp's. and started like a champ.
The problem I have with mine is when you actually start to move and don't go over 25mph or so.
