Default idle trouble

on cold (55 degrees and below) days i can t keep my 03 sportsman 500 ho idling. this happens at a cold start and any other time i need to start er up, even after its warmed up. the only way i can keep it going is there a little play in the throttle lever. if i just touch the throttle and move it (about 1/16") that takes care of the problem but its a real pain in the *** when trying to do yard work or hunt. im not real familiar with atv maintenance yet, only been at it for about 2.5 years now and the 5 hunny is about that old and just recently things started coming up.appreciate any help, thanks

sounds like you need to adjust your idle setting. or adjust throttle cable, or both. look in your repair manual for proper procedure.

Yep .. Thats right I think .. It is the throttle over ride killing the igniton I bet ... Pop the top off the throttle housing on the handle bars . Watch the contact points and notice how the motor dies . Hard to explain but once you see it happen it will make sence .
