Default Phoenix Help

I have an 05 phoenix with charging problems. Rode all of Fri. & Sat. no problems go to start it Sunday morning to make the 300 mile trip home and it's dead. Found a broken wire on the pos. side of the battery so I stripped it and got it back on a little jump pack and away we go. Got home put it on a trickle charge for two days and it starts fine and runs but I checked the charging rate and only have battery voltage 12.4-12.8 volts. Called the dealer and they swear it's the battery so I swap it with a known good one and the same thing. Have all the plastic off and can find no other problems. I asked the dealer about a circuit breaker that the owners book calls for and they have no clue. My thinking is the voltage regulator. Any help besides I told you not to buy it. Just to make sure what your talking about. Are you saying it's only 12.4-12.8 while running? Does the voltage change depending on how much throttle you give it? Does it change depending on whether or not lights are on or off?

Voltage drops with lights. It will not jump up on increased rpms. Turn the lights off the voltage comes up a little. It has a classic no charge condition.

Update not going well Polaris is no help trying to locate a factory wiring diagram the say they only have the owners manual. How can they sell something and not have support for it? My next move is to replace the voltage regulator. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

6 months only I was told. When it was new I had a few of the standard thing wrong with it wrong oil in the trans and such. I went to the dealer to get the correct oil and figured that they would give it to me since I was doing the work and I explained the polaris mix up and they could put the claim in and they still charged me for the oil. This is a dealer that many of my family and friends purchased atv's from but no more after that.

Hey Twister 500, You need to check on that warranty issue. I purchased my sons Phoenix on January 27, 2005, and currently, it has been at the dealer for 7 weeks now with a torn- up transmission. Anyway, back in the beginnig of October, Polaris sent me a letter stating my warranty will be continued for 6 more months. (1 year total). I will have to pay a $50.00 deductable so it states in the new contract, but my dealer said that they are going to cover it !!! I too, had a BUNCH of little problems with it from the get go, but so far, all has been for free !!! Right now, I just want it back so we can go riding before the warranty is up !!!!! Anyway, good luck on your situation !!!

It's fixed. I went to another dealer for the regulator and was told that just the trans was covered for a total of one year due to the wrong oill being put into some of them. The rest of the warr. is the standard 6 months. Just happy the voltage regulator fixed the charging problem. When I removed the old one the back of it was melted like a bad light ballast. Thanks for the help.
