So I start my first post on these forums by bashing a dealer. I go in to get an ECM update and end up with an $160 bill. So I'm not happy and take my quad home in pieces.

What I need to know is how do you take off the front rack on a 05 800SP. I need to do this to put back my fuel filter. I removed the 4 bolts inside the rack but I think I am still missing a bolt/screw or two or three. The bolts woulnd't have normally been so hard to find what when I disaggreed with the dealer they pushed my quad out in a blizzard/ice storm and now it has like an inch of ice on it.

So I have a quad covered in ice and a fuel filter in my hand.....I wonder why it dosen't work??

 

I downloaded the parts manual from polarisindustries.com and it shows pictures of all the parts seperated. It looks like you might have to take the front section off. It shows 2 bolts under the area were a winch would go. It looks like the bolts are covered with half circle shaped caps. This is the best I can do without my atv in front of me. Either way I'd still download the parts manual for the part #s and illustrations its very helpful. You'll have to register your name and email to get to it.

 

Thanks for the reply... And yeah I downloaded a parts manual yesterday for my quad and I'm looking at that same picture. But when I tried yesterday it seems that the front is not conected in anyway to the front rack. I can lift the rack a little and it seems to be hold a little towards the back of the rack. I guess the easiest thing would be to try and get all the ice melted off of it to get a better look at the whole picture.

A lot of my friends just roll their quads and the rack just falls off... hahahaha

 

That's just the problem. I have to take the rack off to install the fuel filter to start the quad to roll the quad to get the rack off.

It is a crazy cycle.

 

There are a couple T25 torx screws under the front fenders (outer edge) and another couple that are accessible when you open the box, you will see them in the recesses along the back edge where the latch is. Sounds like you already have the 4 larger bolts out - when you remove the rest of the screws you will be able to lift it off. The front bumper does not need to be removed to remove the front rack/storage box.
