Default 500 EFI Fuel Mileage?

Hi All

I was thinking about maybe getting a 3rd EFI from Polaris and was wondering if any of you would let me know about your 500EFI's.

I have a 2006 700 EFI and a 2006 800 EFI that I absolutely love but they have never seen a gas can they can pass by. I am keeping both the 800 and 700 for trail machines and want to use the 500 EFI for off road use.

I want the 500 EFI because I believe that it will go way beyond the 40-50 miles per tank that my twins get. Can anyone with one of these machines let me know approximately how they are performing and the distance per tank?

I ride like an old man (heck, I am 52-I am an old man!) so I am thinking the 500 EFI should not only cost less to buy but use less gas too.

The cost of the gas is not an issue.......I want to be able to go all day without carrying my Kolpin flat tank if possible. Any inputs????

Thanks in advance for any info. you can give me...........

I wouldn't know because my 500efi is always broken down. I'm not sure if anyone has even been able to get a tank out of theirs before it breaks down. You'll have to wait untill they get all "bugs" out so people can put some miles on them.

10-4 on the fun factor of the 800 stendori.......it is possibly the best quad I have ever owned. Perfect clutch, ride and power up the you-know-what.

redmtn, what have you had probs with (other than the overheat problem I know about)?

I got my 500 EFI the Friday before Christmas. Rode it all day Monday, about 20 miles, the gas guage never moved. I haven't looked in the tank. No problems with the machine, except every time I turn right it dies. It seems my key ring is too long!! It hits on the top of the tank and switches the ignition off. Only other problem is too much power. It seems that a Sportsmans center of gravity is a little higher than a Honda 300 and when you try to do donuts, it tends to tip over on you or tries to hit your budies truck.. I try to learn something every day and that was Mondays lesson!!

in '02 the SP had a 5.25gal fuel tank. the '06 500EFI is 4.25 or 4.35G which is NOT MUCH even with EFI! i doubt the range has increased for '06 vs '02.

LOTS of problems with my 500EFI. Dealer still can't figure-out the stalling issues. my overheating and almost-impossible-to-shift issues have been resolved. i've never owned an EFI ATV that stalled before buying this one. very strange.

the reason your gauge didn't move is because of the tank shape. you think you are doing well then..............opps! it goes from reading FULL to only reading TWO lines! then it drops fast to one line and you had better fill-er up or you're gonna be walking! LOL!
i called my Dealer on this. they said it'd normal and they can't do anything about it.

AC has EFI and a 5.25g HUGE gas tank. why not one of those?

i think Polaris lost the boat when the quality took a nose dive and gas tank capacitys shrunk to nothing........................................and they put ON 40lbs since 2002!(699 vs 740)

You will have to talk to someone who could go through a tank of gas wihout any problems!!!! My 2006 EFI 500 had the overheating problem(fixed, I think) ,It does seem to almost stall out sometimes(only has stalled twice so far, dealer said he adjusted the idle when fixing overheating problem), has a little bit of a clunk to it( I think that is normal, my 2001 Suzuki KQ 300 has it also) No shifting issues so far!!! 21 miles on machine and still testing!! Bike has spent most of it's time at the dealership getting fixed and waiting for parts!! Thinking about storing it there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!

I talked to the dealer who has been trying to find out what is wrong with my quad. He said he spoke with Polaris and they know about the stall issue and they have no fix for the problem at this time. But they are working on it. It has something to do with a fuel injector motor and a slide and how it closes or something like that. I wonder if Polaris would be willing to extend my three year warranty at least how long it takes for them to fix the problem. I've have the quad over a month without being able to ride it. I'm going to give it a little more time before I file the court papers.

Mtpockets, you got me wondering so I just went and looked, the gauge stills says fulland an eye in the tank still shows full as well. I'll be giving it a workout this weekend again to see how it lasts.

I've had a couple of near stalls myself, but it hasn't stalled completely yet. So far I'm satisfied with the machine.
