I talked to my dealer about this model. He was telling me that when the store crew went to the demo for the hawkeye, they would never have believed it unless they seen it. The hawkeye has only a high speed gear. The tranny is different than all other Polaris models. Polaris hooked the hawkeye up to a 500 ho, put a 275 lb. rider on the Sportsman, and about the same size rider on the smaller quad. The Sportsman had the parking brake locked and the tranny in park, and the hawkeye pulled it all over parking area they were set up on. The dealer was not trying to sell me anything, because I just bought a 500 ho just two months ealier. I looks like this is going to be a nice sport ATV, but it sounds like you can pick up an ATP for the same price as a hawk, so I would buy the ATP. I have my doubts that the hawkeye would make a great work atv.

I picked up a 4x4 Hawk Sat and put an hour on it today, these things are geared really low. You can crawl along at a snails pace with no problem. According to the owners manual you can get an aux oil cooler for extra cooling so it should be ok for some lighter duty work. The tires aren't that great as I suspected, I will upgrade to radials. The throttle response is real soft, it won't surprise anyone with a sudden burst of power but just gradual steady pull however that can be improved easily. So far I really like this quad, no strange noises or rattles, very comfortable to ride....
