New 2005 Sportsman 700EFI too slow!!!!!
Hey everyone! New to the forum and I need some advice. I just bought a new 700 EFI with 27 inch swap lights on ITP wheels. I love the 700, I guess the main reason is it is the 1st "Big" ATV I have ever had. I had been told to be looking for 65-70 MPH form the big quad. I took it out only to find that it had a hard time going over 50MPH. I called the dealership and they told me that it was the bigger tires so I pulled them and put the stock wheels and tires back on. I was then able to get 55-60 MPH at about 6200 RPM. Does this sound right? This is plenty fast for me but I dont want to own a machine that isn't able to reach its full potential. Does this sound right to the rest of you? Should I be worried or is this something that the dealership can ajust and fix? I guess it could be that this is all that the ATV can do but everyone local here says that it isn't right. Any thoughts?

No its not broke in good yet. Anbout 30 miles and 4 hours I think. The reason I am worried about top speed is that I dont want to pay $7000 for a toy that isn't doing all it can do. If something isn't right I want it fixed while its under warranty. Its not that I want to go 70MPH all the time but it would be nice to know that it is there if I needed it.

^ is right. the sportsman liberty motors are quirky. they use less fuel, idle lower, rev higher, and produce alot more power after their broken in. so untill you've done that, dont worry about your quad, remember 6 month warrenty, it should take you a day and a half to break it in
as far as more power, the best bangs for your buck so far are a K&N drop in filter, Sportsman 800 Header, Sportsman 800 Pimary Clutch, and a White Brothers E-Series exhuast.

My 04.5 700 EFI was much quicker as it got to the 300 mile range. But if your not going to get to 300 miles soon it wouldn't hurt to have it checked over, are you bringing it to the dealer for the 10 hour service ? I know - I know, it's an over priced oil change but maybe have them check the clutch allignment ?

I'm new to this site, but not new to the scene...My 04.5 700 EFI will top out 65-70 MPH, depending on the oiled road. When there's a slight, I mean very slight, down-grade I hit 70, but that same stretch of road going the opposite direction, a slight upgrade, I get the 65 MPH mark. These #'s are from a GPS, not just the on-board speedo. Additionally, I have the stock 25" tires, and well over 150 pounds of armor and other extras mounted on the beast.
I hope this helps, but we don't have the exact same machines. I just wanted to weigh-in.
One more thing, after my dirt-bike sells, I'll purchase two new sets of meats. One set will be the "hard-surface kit" and the second will be the Maxxis Bighorns in a size 26. It ought to be interesting what these two sets will do to my performance. I'll be sure to report upon arrival.
