Default Fox rear shock

OK, I got a new '03 stock Fox rear shock from my dealer the other day. When I put it together today (had to go by some spring compressors) the Fox shock seems too long. I screwed the preload adjustment nut all the way up and the spring is still loose. Am I the only one having this issue? It looks OK when the weight is back on it..... Does the rear end move enough that this will even be an issue????????

WOW, that doesn't sound good at all. Only thing I could tell you to do is to take a measurement between the new and the old shock and see if there is a difference in them. If not, then you may have compressed the spring to much and it never came back to it's original length, but thats not likely. Let us know what you find out. Good luck.

You were right. The '03 Fox shock is 1 3/8 inches longer than the stock '05 shock. Guess I'll be buying the dual rate spring setup now.

WOW, I'm shocked they made it shorter. They must of did some changes in the valveing.

What quad is this for? If it is a Predator then yes the 03 is longer then a 04-06. In 04 the shorten the swing arm thus shorter shock. Your dealer should of know it would not work and will not work even with dual rate springs.

No it's for a Scrambler. I'll get the springs for a '03 and everything should be fine.

By the way, the roller secondary went together way easier than expected.

Why don't you get the dealer to get you the right shock? And if your talking about a roller clutch, you better keep a close eye on the rollers. They break apart real easy. And if you keep riding it like that, it will trash out the housing and you will be SOL. And HPD will tell you that you been riding on whoops, and that's what trashed it out. And HPD won't back it up. Mine went out within a year. They told me I was SOL. That's a lot of money to throw away.

I wanted to get a better shock than the factory Sachs POS. After only 150 hrs, it doesn't even dampen anymore. I can compress it fully with one finger.

I don't ride on any whoops really. For the real technical stuff, I ride my friends' DS 650 or a Raptor. Just lots of trails and some mud. Thanks for the heads up, I'll keep an eye on it.

WOW, I didn't know they switched brands. That sucks. Oh well, good luck with the change.
PS:I haven't been on a trail that didn't have whoops on it. Oh well, I hope you have better luck then I did. Later.
