Securing ATV against theft on trailer???
#12
I wouldn't drop to much cash on fancy cables /locks after all a battery powered grinder with a cut off wheel will make short work of them. A big chain would take longer to cut but it's hard to theft proof anything. I use enclosed trailers and try to park in a well lit area. Don't advertise what's inside with decals on the trailer...

I have a few of those, and i like the durability, the no rust rubber outer cover, and it also doesnt scratch or ding the quad, and being a braided cable, itll be tough to cut. Then spend just a bit more, on a better lock, and youre set,

I was at a store and seen some of those Kryptonite cables. Not too bad in terms of cost, but does anyone know how durable these are? I might get a couple of these to lock the ATV's in the trailer and also use them to tie down the ATV's in the garage as an added security measure. Thanks!

I have used those Kryptonite cables before, and wasn't too impressed. They would stop a thief without bolt cutters, but thats about all.
I had them on my ATV when we went to a race that was 300 miles from home. The night before the race while checking everything over real good at the motel I discovered that I did not have the correct key for the lock that was already on the cable securing the ATV to the trailer. With no key to the lock I had to cut the cable before the next morning or I wouldn't be racing. It was 10:30 at night and I couldn't find cable cutters or a hacksaw at the truck stop, which was the only store still open. The person that worked the cash register told me to go next door to the diesel repair shop and just pound on the door, because even though the lights were off he thought there was still someone there working on one of the trucks. I went next door and caught the one employee still there just leaving for home. He went back inside the shop and got a cheesy old pair of worn out looking cable cutters and came over to the motel to cut the cable for me. I told him those cutters probably wouldn't work, just as he snipped the cable in two like it was made of butter. NOT IMPRESSED WITH THOSE CABLES. I'm saving my money for an enclosed trailer

I have my hitch locked to my truck and the trailer locked to the hitch but I dont have any locks on the trailer for the quads. I do have a very good alarm on my truck though and I set it to sensitive so if someone stood on or bumped my trailer it would set off the truck alarm and my truck alarm pages me on my key chain. With todays tools you can cut through any chain or cable given enough time so i think the best bet is alarms notifiying when something is happening so you can take the correct action such as unloading a 45 into someones tires. ive tested it and there is no way you can unload the trailer without setting off the alarm.
