Same exact thing happened to me a while back. The lower rod bearing went out, and the motor sucked up the metal from it. Ruined my piston and dome and a bore. 1/16 is quite a bit of play.

Generally if the intake side of a piston squeaks it means a lubrication problem.
But like I said “generally”

Now take a few minutes and google up piston wash or reading pistons ……the Rotax airplane engine site about wash is really good. It may help you analyze what happened.

You should try and figure out what caused it otherwise you may well find yourself right back where you started.

I'm runnnig premix Amsoil 50:1. There is metal all over the place inside. What else would cause the lower rod bearing to fail?

Also, I checked the counterbalance oil and it was not on the stick, could the have anything to do with it? What is the CB for anyway?

Bruce I’m going to tell you what I tell a lot of people when it comes to modified engines.

Every engine has a lifespan! ………….. The more mods the shorter the lifespan “ end of story!!!
Your engine ran out of life!!!!

It’s a 97 two stroke …………..how long do you think it’s going to last!!!

Take the engine to a “compedent “ engine builder ( not Goober down the street ) and have him take a look. He can tell you in a few minutes what happened and if it is worth fixing.

Money spent I this area is money well spent!!!!

I’m not trying to be a a## here ………..just a little truth.

Zibart,
You are probably right. We have only had the bike form 1 1/2 years so I don't know how much use it has had. Anyway, I think the lower bearing just wore out, fortunately, I live in Phoenix so I'm taking it to Dennis at AZ Bad Boyz to fix the crank and reasemble. I took the engine out and everything else off so hopefullry I can save some Labor $. This is my wife's bike and she loves it, she can regularly beat 450r's up the hills at the dunes. Its fun to watch!
