gas leaking out of drain tube on sc500??

My 96 Xplorer does the same thing. I only notice it what I go out in the garage and get a smell of gas and look under the machine seeing a "gas stain". I assume it had something to do with pressure building up so I loosen the cap.
I'm not sure what causes it though as I too have recently changed my fuel filter.

You may want to check your oil to see if it smells of gas. It sounds to me as if the needle and seat in the carb are either worn or there is something stuck in the seat keeping it open. I always shut the gas off after riding just to be safe. Had a Suzuki dirt bike years ago that actually filled the crankcase with gas overnight. If you do your own maintanance you should be able to check the float in the carb but make sure you have a manual handy so you know where it is supposed to be set. Good luck.
