Default problem with 4x4 on 04 700

HI, I'm new to this foram. I have a problem with the 4x4 engaging when the switch is in the off position. I had broke the speedo the first day I got it home and when I pulled the wires off the back it hade no all-wheel at all. So I put a new speedo on it and it worked great on the dirt, but first snow I wiped it around a turn and it slamed into all-wheel and sent me in the woods. I took it to the dealer I got it from and he told me its going to do that if the back wheels slip to much no matter what the switch is set for. Is that true. I love my toy, but I need it to be 2 wheel drive unless I need the 4 wheel. Any help would be great

When you replaced the speedo did you replace with the same year as your ATV? I know that if you use a newer gauge (one with fuel gauge in it) and you have an early o4 model or newer the 4wd won't work correctly.

A buddy of mine was having the same problem. The polaris dealers kept feeding him full of bull. Finally they ended up replacing the front diff and has not had any issues since then. Most of the time, it is a cracked hillard or fluid issues. I had mine get water in there and it caused it to engage. A new seal, correct fluid levels and no issues since then.

Thanks, thats what I told the dealer. Why would Polaris put a switch if it was going to go into AWD when it wants anyway! I'll check the AWD post thanks.
