Default Progressive Kit for 05/06 SP

I'm looking for a variable rate spring kit with adjustment for my 06 SP700. I was told by my local dealer that the 97/98 Scrambler front struts are the same as the ones on the 05/06 SP line (Longer travel for 05 over 04that matches the scrambler). If this is true it means that the 98 scrambler spring kits will work in our sportsman. The Progressive suspension spring kit I looked at varies from 90-115 in/lbs. I think I recall the stock springs on the 06 SP700 are 70 in/lbs. Can someone confirm the stock rating because the kit is about 180.00 retail. If I can get a deal it may be worth a try just to be able to get a stiffer variable rate spring with adjustment so I don't dive so much in the corners. It may help my pig keep up with the lighter bikes I run with.

It's funny you posted this madmatt. I was just going to ask if anyone knew who makes an adjustable front spring for my 05 SP700. I also need to correct the dive problem. I was searching Progressive and EPI yesterday with no luck. Sorry I don't have an answer, but hope someone may be able to help you (and me).

My local dealer as well as an internet parts dealer/Polaris dealer are both adimate that the scrambler kit will work. I'm going to give it a try. If it does not work it will set me back some shipping and handeling and it may help a bunch of of on the fourm improve the handeling of our bikes.

Hey madmatt,

Just checked out big buck atv. They have the Progressive adjustable springs listed for the 05/06 Sportsman. The base spring rate is 85in/lbs. I think the stock Polaris are 70in/lbs as you said. BTW, looks like you were right, fits the 97-05 Scrambler also. Guess I'll be ordering some.

Go to www.big buck atv products/polaris_progressive.htm

Thanks Bytor. I talked to Paul there yesterday. He was very helpful. He even updated his website becasue it did not show that yesterday. Looks like my SP going to have a new pair of springs too. 85-110 in'Lbs of preload. That should help out in the corners a bunch.

I was looking at the X2 500efi and it has adjustable front preload shocks up front. Can they be swapped into a sportsman? They should be rated for more weight because of the 2-up.

I've been watching these springs too. What model year did the spring length change? I have a 2004.5 700 Sportsman.

Hey all I got an update from my dealer and Polaris tech support on the spring rates for the 06 Polaris sportsman. There varaiable rate from 55-90in/lbs so the kit from progressive should be a huge improvement. May even be a bit harsh at 85 in/lbs. Going to give it a try. I may be able to work a deal wtih my local dealer for the parts. Will let you all know the cost.
