Farmr123 has come up with what I beleive to be a great solution. On the other hand if you are breaking drive shafts you obviously have a mechanical/electrical problem. Have you ever noticed the warning label that says " do not engage 4wd switch if the rear wheels are spinning or serious drivetrain or clutch damage may occur"(or something like that). You may inadvertently be activating the switch or there may be a short or loose wire somewhere leading to, or at the switch itself causing the 4wd to engage even though you did'nt want it to. Mabey you just didn't know about the warning and are activating it when you are not supposed to!!!!If you were to cut the wires at their source, it would eliminate the problem which I just described and would not have to get into the front hubs. The best soloution would be to find the short and fix it.

Ahhh, It's been a while since I've caught up with the 4x4 part of the ATV world.. been Racing, BUT. I believe that the Polaris 4x4 system uses a MAGNET COIL to engage the Wheels. There are wires running to the coil. All you should have to do, is disconnect the wires, and tape them up. That SHOULD fix your problem. But I agree, if you're tired of the weight, you SHOULD try to trade. This would probably be the cheapest way to get a 2x4 out of a 4x4. I know someone took the coils out of my Sportsman Hubs, it was only 2x4. Hope it helps, later
