SP 500HO Need Help
#1
I live in the Canadian Arctic so there is no dealer to take my bike to. Last Nov I was warming by bike up and it started to overheat. I let it cool down then took it for a ride. I stopped by a friends place and noticed it was very tough to start when I wanted to leave. I drove a few hundred feet and the bike just stopped dead and would not start. I've checked everything that I can and spoke with the service guy at the dealership. I've got spark, fresh gas, taken the carb apart, and check the air filter. The bike will turn over but not start. When using the throttle to start the bike it just backfires but still won't go. Dealer is out of ideas but has mentioned timing chain slipping and piston and cam shaft issues. Any help would be great otherwise I'm going to have to look at shipping the bike out air freight at a huge cost to me.

Check compression, also if it got hot enough its could have throwed the vavle adjustment off. But a compression test is the first thing to do. If it is the valves do check the cam lobes for wear. It may be a broke ring. There are about 100 things that can cause 1 problem.

Thanks for your ideas. I'll test the compression and see what we get. Could there be an electrical problem?? One other guy has a 500HO in town and he had to replace the ECM and he thinks that might be my problem. Any thoughts on this??
