Default 500 sp problem

New here, hope somebody can shed some light on a problem with my 04. When I put it in gear and take off, it goes about 30-40 feet then it feels like I'm slamming on brakes. The front pulls just a little when it does this. From that point it labors hard to pull itself, like you're holding the brakes. I can back up and try again but it still does it. The kicker is, it only does it in 2WD, with the AWD switch on it does fine. I have the extended warranty, but if this is something simple, I'd just as soon try to fix it myself, the Polaris shop is 45 miles away and they stay backed up, it would be there at least 2 weeks or more. Thanks

Sorry to say it, but sounds like a pretty significant tranny problem that needs a dealers attention. Ive never heard of that problem before.

Default 500 sp problem

I have an 04 700 that just started doing something similar. I was just getting ready to post when I read this. I found that my rear caliper is locked up. I lifted the quad and checked the front brakes...just fine. I then went to the rear and found that I have a rear caliper that is really applying some serious pressure to the disk. I pulled the caliper and pressed the piston back in and then took it out...perfectly good until I applied the brakes. Then I had to put it in 4 wheel drive to make it back to the garage. Caliper is locked tight again. Took it off and started the quad on the lift and in high with little throttle the wheels begin to spin. put the caliper back on and it takes about 3800+ RPMs to turn the wheels. Anyone have any suggestions? I have gone thru and bleed all the brakes..but I think it is in the caliper.

Thanks

sportsman2004- you can get rebuild kits from EPI to try and fix your brake caliper problem.

rrronnie- you will be better off taking it in if you have an extended warranty... thats what you paid extra cash for. i would take it in if i had the ext. warranty.
