Default Opinions wanted on TB400 Extended A Arms

I want/need to make my 03 low hour 400 Trailblazer handle/corner better. I am considering Aaen 3" (total) A arms. Also open to other suggestions. Ride is very harsh also, tends to throw the handlebars side to side. Also considering an extended swingarm to help with high speed stability??????

Most aftermarket front wheels are off set about the same as those aarms would widen it out. Look at your stock wheels they are inset instead of offset. You'll gain 4" from new 5" front wheels in a 3" offset. www.rockymtnatvmc.com has good deals as well as recreation tires inc..

You will gain a few inches by turning your front wheels around and putting the offset to the outside.

The only issue is your valve stem will hit your brake caliper so you will have to either invert the valve stem or take it out and seal that hole somehow. Then you will need drill another hole in the other side of the wheel for a new valve stem.

Once you make the front wider you should look into getting a steering stabilizer before you risk hitting a stump and breaking a finger or your wrist. Just ask around, it has happened. Aaen and HPD make them for around $199 and $119 I think. Guys on this forum have said the one Aaen makes is better.

I haven't done this to my Scrambler yet. I was going to but the other day I was riding it, (wide open of course), and all of a sudden it felt like it lost a LOT of power.

Checked the compression while the bike was warm and the throttle wide open....102psi.. :-( not good. I knew it was close to time for a rebuild, I am just glad I didn't break the piston.

It is all stock, looks like it's time to call RCR and see what kind of power I can get out of this thing on my budget. I am thinking about doing something similar to what HPD lists on their site, the "Trail Mod Kit". I have heard that really wakes them up!!

you can gain an inch a side by flopping the wheels left to right and vice versa mounted valve stems in. you could either remove the factory valve stem, invert it and then add a new valve stem to the other side of the wheel.

you can also machine your caliper, flip the wheels and BOLT THEM DOWN no caps on the valve stem and start to spin the wheel. you should see by how much the valve stem is hitting the caliper. mine hit by less then a quarter inch and I just machined this amount of material off the caliper. Ive since switched the wheels back normal.

I also now run the AAEN +3 a-arms and there not much different then stock interms of handling the height of the scrambler is the problem here but its not a motorcross bike. the arms are set forward some and it helps high speed stability alot.

Works struts are one of the best buys for a scrambler they do absolute wonders and are well worth the price. my present set up is stock offset wheels, +3 arms and works struts.
