Default Rider to rider communications

I'm looking at getting a couple of midland 2 way radios from best buy. They come with VOX hands free headsets. I was wondering if anyone has tried this set up. The ear piece is a wrap around the ear type set up and the mouth piece is on a bendable wire coming off of the ear piece to the mouth.... Do you think it will go over the helmet without problems and since its a voice activated system. Will the sound of the engine keep it on and not allow both riders to talk. I'm ordering it off the internet so I want be able to get a good look see at it, until it arrives. Before I order it though, I was wanting some feed back on what you guys think. Thanks.

We use the Platimum 900 by Collet. They are kind of pricy, but they work the best. We tried a number of different radios with mics, throat mics, wrist radios.... We have used the Collets for two years now on both our sleds and our quads. Looking back, I would not waste my money on anything else.

I was thinking about two cell phones with the "IN" plan it wont cost any air time to stay on and talk.

Has anyone tried cell phones?

Nextel Phones with direct talk capablities also work great. If there is no cell coverage they act like traditional walki talkies with about a 4 mile range depending on the terrain and you get a cell phone to boot. I think Sprint has plans that start are like 40 bucks and the phones are cehap enough with a contract and they have hands free direct connect kits the are desinged for noisey industrial conditions.

Thanks for all the replies. We wear full face helmets and getting a phone or such around that helmet is a pain. Been there done that. Talking on it is okay. Its just the other person cant hear you. I'll figure out something. I'll let you know what works or dont work.
