my reverse on my 01 trail boss 325 is not working. i can move the gear select lever back to reverse, but the reverse light does not light and it acts like somthing hold it back when push the thorttle. but goes forward realy well.
just wont move reverse any ideas?

 

not sure is there any adjustment on the shifting linkage? if not sounds like something seroius.

 

Check the arm that the shiftrod hooks onto to see if it is loose or stipped out.If it is good you have internal problems.Most likly the snapring that holds the reverse gear to the shaft has come loose.Not a hard fix but takes time to get the tranny out of the frame.

 

well i checked the shift linkeged and looks fine. i think its the tranny,
shoud i replace the tranny or buy a new atv?
if i buy a new atv i plan running this one until it dies.
i had the rear swing arm repalced recently and chain and both sporkets.

 

I would buy a service manual and repair the tranny.

Look on ebay for a factory manual.Or spend the cash at a dealer .I have never found one online.

 

Luck is a good part of the ebay search. I did find mine on there, and got it for under 25 bucks shipped. If you don't see one, ask the seller of another manual (Trail Blazer for example) if they can get the Trail Boss.

Yes the transmission will have to be removed easy fix after that split the case and you will see a retaining ring clip on the shaft that keeps reverse gear from moving up. just put the clip back in the groove above gear. THIS WILL NOT HAPPEN UNLESS YOU JERK HARD TO PUT IT INTO REVERSE.
