He also told me that he, and other dealers he knows love to sell polaris because of all the parts they sell. Said the break down more often. Is this true???? The polaris i have ever ridden with seem to work great. Are you guys constantly buying parts??

Thanks for the info
all of my Polaris's have been great except for my latest which was a '06 500EFI. i thought maybe it was just mine that had problems at first, but if you take the time to read what OWNERS of the 500EFI have to say, almost ALL are having problems. i'm so sick and tired of re-hashing them so do a search for yourself. after reading (and with a little common sence) i'm quite sure you won't be buying one this year. maybe Polaris will have their act together for '07.

I'll not own another Polaris as soon as I can get my '03 Sportsman 600 out of the shop this time. It broke down while riding the Hatfield-McCoy trails in West Virginia in early Feb of this year: Crank bearings went. I've had it 1 week since then and that was in early May. I took it back for overheating and jerky handling and they still have it: thermostat, leaky water pump, motor temp sensor, and now waiting on parts to replace both front axles and front transfer case. If it wasn't for purchasing a Polaris extended warranty, my repair bill would be pushing $4000 since August of '05 when the CDI, stator and flywheel had to be replaced when it broke down in Utah. I did good maintenance on it, I don't jump it, just ride it. I avoid mud and water if possible because I like to just ride.
So don't tell me Polaris builds reliable atv's. I definitely got a lemon.

P.S. The extended warranty people originally tried to say that the front axles were wearable parts until I showed them their own ad that points to and talks about the savings if replacing the axle.

Say what you want about a Polaris but the 500 HO's are a very reliable machine. I have 1700 miles on mine and not one problem so far..I do regular maintenance and still running the original belt..I ride with two other friends that have the same bike and they too have had no problems. You can't go wrong buying a 500 HO carb model.

carb model i agree!..........except for '06 all carb models don't have EBS! Polaris cheats you there. i have owned both with and w/o and imo it's a must to have EBS.

if Polaris thinks their ATV's are so reliable, why don't they make their warranty 2-3 YEARS like Bomb does? afterall, what do they have to lose? instead, YOU have to buy the extended warranty and the Dealer tries to weasel-out of honoring it when something fails! it's a JOKE!

the Dealer should love honoring a Polaris EWarranty because the plan pics-up the cost of the repairs, not the Dealer.

what about honda? yamaha? last i checked both only had a 6 month warranty. Notice that bomb atvs also cost much more than their competitive brand.. so the extended warranty is built in, you don't have a choice.

Officially, most warranties are void with oversize tires and other mods...

I've had my Polaris Pred 05 up north, at the dunes, in the desert and on the beach and it's been great. I love it. I do regular maintenance and have had no problems at all. It takes me everywhere I want to go!

Whenever the question of Polaris reliability comes up, there are always people on one side telling horror stories and on the other side talking about how they've ridden xxxx miles and never had a problem... I think it's weird that most everyone is on one extreme or the other.

They either suck or they're wonderful. Very little in between.
