hello all
i am looking at getting a sp 500 for the wife. i was talking to my arctic cat dealer last night at a bar. He told me he use to deal polaris but switched. He also told me that he, and other dealers he knows love to sell polaris because of all the parts they sell. Said the break down more often. Is this true???? The polaris i have ever ridden with seem to work great. Are you guys constantly buying parts??
Thanks for the info

You cant go wrong with a Polaris 500 it is as reliable if not more so than anything on the market.Just get a 2001-up.

As long as you do periodic maintenance, (As with any machine), you will never regret buying a 500. I own a 2001, which is the year they incresed the HP by 20%. Compared to my earlier 1999 500, it was a huge improvement. Other than doing yearly oil changes and other scheduled maintenance, its given me wonderful reliability and many enjoyable rides. A great 2-up machine. Your wife will enjoy the soft, cushy ride.

actually, the year 2000 was then the Polaris 500 H.O. was introduced as a 2000.5 model. i own a 2000 Polaris Sportsman 500 H.O. that we bought when it was new, 6 years ago. it has braved every kind of condition possible from me driving the **** out of it on icey roads, to pulling sleds, to hauling 600 pound logs up inclines. and towing my sportsman 800 home 2 miles when its belt snapped unexpectedly. it is the most fuel efficient most reliable stout quad ive seen. and there is no doubt in my mind that you would love a new 06 500 EFI (since now they've got the bugs worked out of them)
good luck!

I don't care what anyone says. I see more Polaris' atv's on the side of the trail each weekend. I am also lucky enough to have a friend who works in the service department at Polaris and he has (5) atv's and Not ONE is a Polaris and my history with the Phoenix I bought they can all go to he11 with their customer service to their price for parts.........just my 2 cents.

here we go again....
I've noticed that more than 80% of polaris ATVs in NC are modified--usually with 26" + size mud tires and a winch. This also means that polaris riders go places that other riders don't --- so IMO --- people that ride polaris ATVs ride them harder (this doesn't mean faster) than most other brands--
As a result, larger tires will require more frequent maintenance and more often break something unexpectedly. This same theory goes for trucks & jeeps in the woods.
Shoot the theory down if you'd like, but this is based on observation. I would do a survey of each brand, but I don't think everyone would be honest about break-downs, mods, and maintenance in an effort "protect" their brand (keep their pride).
