I have a 00' Grizzly that IM going to sell since I bought the HO.I was wondering if anyone has raced these 2 machines? My Grizzly seems to stop at 60 but the HO seems to go faster after 60. If the speedo is the same on both then I know the HO is faster.I plan to race them myself when I get a chance.

My Grizzly also stops at 60mph, or even alittle less. But I have over sized tires, so even though it says 60, its probably more. Motorcycle and quad speedo's are notoriously inaccurate. The only way to be sure is to use a radar gun. I know I always carry one in my tool kid for just these kind of problems. Then I can use the little 12v cell phone/acc plug in that we would all be lost without!
I think with these type of quads top speed is almost a mute point. Its torque that matters the most. Top speed is a measure of pure horsepower. Going 60mph is fun sometimes, but thats all! I personally have never had a need to go that fast! The only time I do is when I get a wild hair up my ***.
It isn't the speed that does it for me, but how fast I can get there that puts the biggest grin on my face!

Why the hell would you sell a Grizzly for a Polaris?

Well 300forlife,

He is selling the Grizzly probably because after owing and riding both he has chosen the one HE prefers most.

Wasn't you who was asking me for information on the SP500??

I have owned on Grizzly and 2 SP500s. When compared with most bikes, the Grizzly is an awesome machine; however, it is not even in the same league with the SP500. For all you Honda and yamaha riders that do not believe me, all it takes is one day of hard riding on a SP500 and you will see what I mean. Try hitting some jumps and mudding on some rutted trails.

Hey 01Grizzly~
I just read your post about motorcycle and ATV speedometers are notoriously inaccurate. For the most part, that is true, but the 99 and later Polaris ATV's have argueably the most accurate speedos in the ATV industry. I have checked my machines with a GPS and here's what I found out: My Scrambler has had the add on Polaris speedo since it was new. At 20 mph on the speedo, the GPS read 19.8. At 30 on the speedo, GPS read 29.4. At 40, GPS read 38.9. That's as fast as I have tested it, but I would guess at 50 on the speedo, it is actually maybe 48.3, and at 60, maybe actually 57.7. Please don't bombard me about making up info on those last 2 speeds, as they are just my guesses! To me, being within a few mph is fairly accurate. The Explorer had the same results, only at 40 and 50 on the speedo, the GPS read 39.4 and 48.8 respectively. On the other hand, the speedo on my TW200 reads atleast 5 mph fast at any speed above 45 mph! I did a top speed run with that bike and the speedo read 78 mph! I thought that was pretty impressive for a 200 cc 4 stroke!! Then I took the GPS along and it read a more realistic 68 mph. Maybe it's just the Yamaha speedo...I have heard their ATV speedo can be adjusted to read a little faster. Well, that's just my 2 cents and some real life numbers. But really, how often is ANYBODY actually running at their top speed??? People should be more concerned with how fast a machine can get to that speed since that is what trailriding is about (for some people atleast). Who cares if your ride a SP500HO or a SP90, just have a good time and don't get hurt!

Yeah I did ask for info on the SP500. But I just took a 1998 SP500 for a test ride. IT just doesn't have the quality a Honda has, NOT EVEN CLOSE!!!!!! Its the kind of bike that you worry about not making it home on! I guess I might be biased though since I 've only owned Honda 300 4x4's which are the most reliable atv's ever made-still! The SP500 is an appealing bike but Polaris still has a long way to go in the quality department.

You are right, it is the most reliable, but also the most antiquated quad ever made.(by todays standards)
