AWD Stopped working '05 sportsman 500HO
#1
I rode for three days this past weekend, putting about 120 miles on my '05 Sportsman 500HO. I know my AWD worked on saturday, but it did not work when I went to use it on sunday. Normally when I push the AWD switch the icon comes on the display. This no longer happens. Any ideas what I should look for? Quad only has about 300 miles on it and I very rarely used the AWD.
Thanks,
Rob

The only thing i can think of is to check your fuses , i don't know that much about the polaris atv's ....if this doesn't help you should post on the polaris forum someone there shound be able to give you more help. But i would check for a blown fuse........... i hope this help's !

cut the atv off and put it into neutral and apply the parking brake, next hold the reverse override button and turn the switch on. release the override button as soon as the dispaly comes on, it should display a number like 2.0 or 2.1 when it comes on, this is a diagnostic mode. make sure when you turn the switch you dont crank the atv, now you should be able to toggle thruogh the modes by using the override button. when you come to the awd system the icon will come on and toy can use the awd switch and if everything is working as it should the display will say on of off as you use the awd switch. if the display does not show on or off as you use the switch then i would contact the polaris dealer and advise them of this problem, did you check the fuse for the awd system?

Wayne,
Thanks for the detailed info. I have not had time to try anything at all yet. Just worked one day and did not the next. Still doesn't work. Some people on another forum said they had a similar problem that was fixed by replacing the differential fluid. I'll check the easy stuff first. Now, where would I find the AWD fuse?
Thanks,
Rob

That is a good question, i have only had my 700 sp for about three months and have not had naything like you are describing happen to mine. Check the owners manual and if you cant find anything there im sure the dealer might have some info. If you get a chance to use the diagonostic mode at least that will tell you if it is an electrical problem or if it is mechanical.
