Default 05 700 EFI melting

I ride an 05 700 EFI i had to take it back to the dealer once about my plastic on the right side melting and dripping. They said the put the 06 fix back on it and it was good to go. During night rides you can still see the pipe glowing red close to the motor, my wife rode it the other day and burned her leg pretty good, so back to the dealer. 1. Is this a fluke or the norm? 2. What can be done about it?(still under warranty). 3. Will Polaris help me out? We dont ride hard just long trips up hills down hills you know the drill hardly any high speed etc. just joy riding.

We just had a 05 800 come in and for the first time we have a melted plastic issue. We did the digital wrench and found the customers average speed to be,,,, 6.9 mph.... All the system seems to be running ok, I do not know what the deal is, but slow riding isn't an option on these quads. I hear the Bombs are having the same Problem. I do not know what the deal is.

It is very comon for the pipe to glow red close to the motor. I have two sportsmans 700s and a 06 raptor 700, all three of them glow at night. Never had any plastic melt .

welcome to club I had an 05 700 efi same problem took it back to the dealer they said everything was fine second time my wife burned her leg I took it back same thing I told them they could keep it I bought an 800 the power is awesome!! six months into this quad the rear fender and side panel melts. dealer fixs that problem. one hour after I get it back the side panel melts again so this time they put new plastic on and a header pipe polaris says this pipe has a differnt bend to keep away from fenders. It was better after that.then my dealer calls me two weeks later with a deal I could not refuse so traded up to an 06 this quad has allkinds of extra heat shields on the exhuast with heat tape on the plastic seems ok but I only have 280 miles on it. with the 05 800 I had to make alot of phone calls directly to polaris that is what got all those problems fixed so fast or so it helped somewhat.just keep on your dealer that you know something is not rite with your quad. I'am giong to start running engine ice coolent in my 06 800 to try to get it to run cooler they say it lowers coolant temp up to 50%.I still love my quads they ride the best, the twin cyclinders just run way to hot you got to keep them moving. good luck

I cut some welding blanket to fit my side cover, glued it on with amazing goop then put heat tape on the rear fender, working good. I also am using water wetter in it and it does run cooler, but I dont think it is 50%.

I'am running water wetter from red line also it mite work but changing the hole colant over just engine ice coolant seems like a better idea. they say it works will see. you spend that kind of$ on a quad you would think all you need to do is add gas. what the HE!!!!!!

Ridiculous, whenever I sit down to read the forums I find another problem to prepare myself for or try to prevent. If you read my post, Extended Warranties, worth it? You will understand the problems I have had. I guess I will be buying heat shield tape soon. If there are any other problems anyone knows of please let me know. I would rather be proactive.

Well my 06 just joined the ranks. I want for about an hr ride yesterday and my son noticed my bike was smoking. The Plastic right between the side cover and the rear fender folded over and was doing its best to catch on fire. Heading to the dealer tommrow for a new side cover and rear fender. I've got a 800 header on the way that's be cremic coated inside and out. I've also had the heat sheild covered on both sides. that should block all of the heat.
