Default Help on a 99 335 cv boot

I just have torn a small hole in the rear cv boot on my 99 335 Sportsman. Do I need to remove the shaft to replace it if it is not contaminated. This model has a u joint at each end of the shaft and the boot is in the middle of the shaft. I am a pretty decent mechanic and I was just wanting to know the right way to do it. Thanks alot for your help. JG

Ok thats what I thought. Do I remove the center bolt to remove the shaft from the rear end and does the joint have the snap ring holding it together.

Yes thats it. What type of joint does this boot cover up. I punched a small hole in it and it is not contaminated yet so I am wanting to fix it asap. Thanks for your help.

its not a cv joint. i belaeve its just a joint that slides back in forth to allow going over bumps to let the shaft extend and collasp on it self. i think it has a seal in it and that the rubber is a dust cover only. does it have a reg. grease fitting in the shaft near the boot to take grease. if so i'm pretty sure that in has internal seal under the boot.

No there is no grease fitting on the shaft itself. How would you disassemble this to repair it.

i've never taken one apart by the picture that im looking at i would guess that the u joint is pinned on the shaft. if you can remove the shaft end and pull the boot over the end? like i said from what im looking at im not sure. just a note but can you see any grease coming from the hole your talking about or stick a needle in to see if its fulll of grease or not. i still think it might be a sealed shaft and thats a dust cover. but i could be wrong wont be the first time or the last .lol. good luck
