2005 Trail Boss - Loose chain problems and axle issues
All -
My buddy and I went riding yesterday
me w/my SP 450, him on his Trail Boss.
Almost from the beginning he was hearing
abit of a rattle/knocking sound coming from
the chain driven area (right side). After ignoring
it and spot checking a little ways up the trail the
problem persisted, long story short his chain
was soo loose it was practically sitting on the bar
underneath. With no chain guard/guider that could
protect chain. (Suggestions on where to get these for
future loose chain problems with the 2005 Trail Boss?)
Anyways, as we made attempts to tighten/stretch
out the chain we took notice of the other side (left)
that an axle piece (don't know technical name) would turn
that is supposed to not move. We found a bolt in front
whereby it appeared loose and was able to tighten the whole
contraption, all looked well. After about less than a mile
on the trail the whole thing came loose again, chain
sitting back on the bar underneath. You guessed it this
problem terminated our ride day. He doesn't remember
hitting the bottom on any rocks, debris or anything.
Only thing close to this was his riding in thick mud and
water a few weeks prior?
Help, any suggestions?
Thanks,
R'
