IF you don't have a service manual it may be a little difficult but not bad.You will need to remove your belly plate and your pull rope side cover, there are two bolts there for the starter there are also two bolts behind the belt cover you can get to them with out removing your belt cover.then there are two long bolts to disasemble your starter the polate comes by the nuts where your cable is connected. You can do it your self it will just take a little time.Good luck
yes your dealer should carry the brush plate.

Before you pull the starter all the way apart, take a marker & put a line down the length of it, to mark the body & both ends. I helped a buddy work on one once, on a Honda, and we put one end in a half round from where it should have been, and none of the wires would reach. It is hard to tell exactly how it goes when it is on the bench, and most (never worked on a Polaris starter yet - knock on wood) starters I worked on woul go together with either or both ends off a half turn.

starter replace on a polaris sucks!!! there is a little bracket that goes from the starter to the case!! and you have to have the hands of a 5 year old to get that ONE bolt on the top out!!!! took me 30 mins to get that #%$^&&%$# bolt out!!! not to mention it did not go back on!! there a 3 bolts that hold the starter on and i figure if they wont hold then she wont go as far as the skid plate!! hehehehe
