Help with fluid changes 2001 Sportsman 500
#1
I have a 2001 or 2000 Sportsman 500. I have had it serviced at the dealer a few times for oil changes, etc... and wanted to start doing the job myself. My aftermarket mannual calls for the following and I wanted some help with what brand / weight to pick up at my local discount store.
1. Engine Oil: Calls for 10W/40 Synthetic....I already purchased Mobile 1 10W/40
2. Filter: I purchased Fram 6017A
3. Transmission: Calls for Synthetic Gearcase Oil ??? Only thing I saw at Wal-Mart was a bottle of Super Tec Synthetic (32oz) Gear Lubricant ???
4. Front Gear Case: 3.25 oz of API GL5 80-90 Gear Lube....I believe I saw this in the Super Tec also and a product from Shell
5. Coolant : 50/50 like Prestone?
Let me know if #1,#2 are ok since I've already purchased...I can always take them back if needed.
Any help or suggestions of brands and exactly what the bottles say on them for #3,#4 and #5 would be appreciated.
I just use the 4 wheeler for basic riding and almost always at medium or low speeds.....dirt roads with the family and hunting is about it.
Thanks,

Hello, you can use mobile one in the tranny too, I use Castrol Syntec in my engines and tranny's, have for a long time, havent had any problems. The front diff on the 500 takes 80-90, I use Castrol Synthetic in mine. You can use ATF in the front hubs, but I think the hub drive fluid from polaris works better, they seem to disengage better with it. AS for anti-freeze they say to use distilled water with 50-5mix.
