Default sportsman 400 running problem

I just bought a 2001 Sportsman 400 that is not running. I got it running, but it pops through the carb. and actually spits the gas out of the carb. It acts like the exhaust is coming through the carb. I've checked the compression, valves, and timing. Everything checks to be correct. Today, I pulled the coil wire off to check for fire. I also put a plug wire in the wire and grounded it and spun the motor over only to have it fire once and then quit with the motor still spinning over. Every time you stop spinning it over and try to start it again, the motor does the same thing. Has anyone encountered this problem before? Any helpful help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
