Default 1996 polaris sportsmen 400

My atv doesn't want to go into gear.It is a automatic.The idling seems to be high would that cause this problem.Please help.thanks

Too high of idle WILL cause it to not go in gear.

Default 1996 polaris sportsmen 400

Thanks,set the idling and it is shifting fine.Now i have another problem.Put a new starter relay and battery on it and when you try to start it it just clicks.Any idea of what it could be?Hope you can help.Also does it have a neutral switch.

No neutral safety switches. "Clicking" can be caused by low batt(which yours is new), loose or poor connections is probably the cause. Check at all the connections that you messed with first. If it is not found, then look at the starter connections!

most likley cause is worn out shifter linkage. replace the tie rod ends on the linkage then readjust. and problem should go away. do this asap. or you will need a tranny teardown to replace the shifter dogs

Clean all the connections and if it stil clicks it is time to rebuild the starter motor.You can get a rebuild kit off ebay for around $40 just do a search for polaris starter
