My son has an 03 Sportsman 700. It has been difficult and almost impossible to get into reverse.Lately getting into any gear has ben a challenge. It has about 2000 miles on it and was purchased this spring used. Thanks for any recommendations.

You could have a motor mount wore and has the clutches out of alignment. Have you inspected the belt and clutches? Welcome to the forums

Sportsman is right on things to check. Also is this when its really cold out side. They had a problem with the gear selector module getting moisture inside and freezing. Module is the lil black thing on the other end of shifter (tranny end of shifter). Try and shift it with motor off (on level ground) if it shifts fine then its a a clutch issue.

i had a problem with mine going into reverse and high. turned out to be the spring on the gear selector module, so the advice given is valid.

I'm sure its not the reason but if your idle is set too high it will be hard to shift gears as the clutch is trying to engage.

Is it hard to shift with the engine turned off? is it any easier with the side panels off? Has the gear oil been canged latey? Need more info to pin it down, otherwize everyone is just guessing, need more info>
