Default sportsman HELP!

2002 700.
putting the motor back in the quad and i have a brass barb fitting in the cylinder head, just in front of where the intake bolts up for the carb. it sticks strait up towards the fuel tank.
i have no idea what was hooked up here.
it shows a pic of it in my manual, but no mention of anything.
thanks!

no.
it is a brass hose barb. 1/8" or so. sticks right out the top of the head. its actually in line with the valve cover breather hose.
i have no idea what goes here.
i had all my atv parts in one box when i tore it apart, and dont have a hose to go back on it. puzzles me.
dealer doesnt know either, but they dont know much of anything.
if i had the intake unbolted from the head, you could prolly stick your fingers in the head port and feel the hole, id guess.
thanks.

Default sportsman HELP!

ok, ive got everything buttoned up and still have this barb sticking out the top of the cylinder head.
even the dealer here or breese lawn and garden doesnt know what its for.
I DO HOWEVER have a fuel line from the fuel pump that is not hooked up.
could this be a vent to get rid of fuel vapors into the engine?
hose looks like it might have went there before, but im skeptical to put it there in fear of locking up the motor with fuel.
i guess i should just crank it up with it off and see if fuel spits out the hose.
any reccomendations?
thanks!

I don't have much experience with a 700 but this sounds like an engine vent. There should be a hose going from the air box to the vent.

If it is in the intake tract it will be the sorce of vacum for the fuel pump.

Yes, yes, the fuel pump is run by vacuum. That brass port is vacuum for that hose to operate the pump!
