Help with a scrambler 500 clutch kit
Hello. to all. I have been reading here for a long time. most of the time all the info is great. I have been a polaris sled racer / snowmobile tech. for many many years and know them inside and out... but atv's new to me...
Here is my question... lets see how this goes. I have just purchased a 2000 scrambler 500 NON ho and it had a clutch kit and Dynomax exhaust on it. it runs very well but has some clutch issues...
Upon first inspection, I noticed a large grove in the drive and the buttons have eaten into the towers / thus clutch is toast. have new clutch on the way, but have concerns about the "kit"
It has S 58 weights in the drive, forgot what color sprong (sorry)... and a light purple spring with a 44/38 helix in the driven. Has anyone any ideas whos "kit" this may be. Considering going to stock set up for winter. I pull a small utility tralier and work it sometimes as well as like to play as well... thinking about a small snow plow... not looking to "race". just work and fun...
I dont want the clutch to wear out again either. I Know this is probably from lack of maintenance... but any help would be great. I just think this kit is more than I need???
ALSO... Dynomax???? have seen a few of them on units for sale online but cant find any info?
Thanks everyone for all the info over the past!!!
P.S. feel fee to email me at simonds.performance@yahoo.com

I have nevrer heard of a Dynomaxx pipe for a 500.But on 4stroke quads you dont have to clutch to the pipe as you do on 2strokes.Depending on your riding style you have lots of clutching choices.Like for normal riding I recomend a Dalton blk/white primary(or Polaris green or even a white if you dont want higher engagment)with evther a HPD violet(like it sounds like you have)or Aaen blue set at 2-2 for better backshift. Now if you want to get a litle on the agrresive side go with an Aaen green or HPD brown primary,10-56 weights and the previously mentioned secondary(oh yea ditch the 44-38 and go with a straight 40)I have run these set ups and can tell you from experiance that they work. But if you want o get into more cash you can go with a TEAM roller secondary and get it really good but it takes time to dial everything in.
BTW your 2000 500 Scrambler IS an HO the only 500 Scrambler that wasnt was the 1997

Thanks! Talked to HPD tonight. The owner was very helpful and he advised me that is there kit in there already. He did advise to go with a diff. spring (polaris orange or brown and the 56gr weights). Already have the weights / same as sleds / have buckets of them. I am going to give it a try on friday when the new clutch is here...
Thanks for the info! It was very nice of you!

HPDs kit is going to hit hard and pull good(basicly the same set up as the Aaen green). But if you can afford it call Rick Ritter and ask about the Dalton blk/white and stock 10WH weights. This is good for low engagment and good all around power.Heck get both and compare what yo like the best.If you need stock weights I have a few sets laying around.
You dont by chance have a set of 10M weights and 10-54 and a spare set of 10-56 you would part with do you?

Hi have to look about the weights... I currently run much heavier than thoes in sleds these days. 66 plus grams... but I know for sure I have a set of 10m-5 they are 49 gr + or - .5 gr.. that are 1 gr heavier than mb's they have same engagement as the mb's but drive the top a tad harder. they were in for about 2 runs and had to go to a custom ground 51 gram... so I can sell thoes... let me know... make you a deal and u can try them?
