Hey guys, lookin for a set of vamps or outlaws
for sp500. Im concerned about them rubbing. Will 27 inch vamps fit it without rubbing? what about the outlaws? I dont want to have to get a lift kit and spacers for it. I called the guy at national tire and he said i could go with 27x10x12 vamps on the front without them rubbing. Of course on new itps most likely. I do a lot of mud riding, the vamps have proved worthy on my 2000 kodiak 4x4.
Anyone have 28's on their sp???? let me know..

27" tires WILL rub on the front of your Sportsman. When I put mine on, I noticed it on small bumps and such. I have decided that I don't need 27" tires, and can get away with 26" tires next time. I am leaning towards the Outlaws next, as I have the tri/biclaws now, and the aggressive tread tells me I don't need such a huge diameter tire, I can get away with 26"ers that still have an aggressive tread. I do have the HL lift kit, front and rear, and I've got plenty of ground clearance. The only problem I can forsee is the additional strain on the front CV joint/steering/suspension. Its a shame that Polaris doesn't build the quads from the factory to handle the most popular upgrades that serious quadders are doing to their machines. Again, its one of those "no warranty if modified" B.S. clauses they put at the front of your warranty statement. Ever wonder if Polaris believes that their customers "follow the rules" and stay on the well travelled road and never put a Polaris through the rigors of "fun" riding?

Durkan,
I have a 98 Sportsman 500 and have just recently removed the 27x12x12 Vamps I was running, and placed 28x10.5x12 Outlaws on the bike. Although I am a firm believer in the Vamps being a great tire in the mud the Outlaw pulls alot better then the Vamps.
Both tires will rub some in the front along the fenders. Some peopel move the fenders back to avoid this, but I did not have to move mine back with the 28" running the spacers. Spacers will be needed if you choose to run the 12x12 vamps to avoid the rubbing on the front struts. You may also want to consider the weight of the tires due to the fact the 28'Outlaws weight 3-4 pounds less then the 27x12x12 Vamps. This will not put as much stress on the cv joints, and believe it or not the 3-4 pound per tire makes a big diffrence in the performance as well as the wear and tear on the bike. Hope this helps in your decesion.
