My 98 Trail Blazer makes a skipping/ grinding noise when you hit the throttle under load and won't move forward, if you walk alongside it it will not do it. Sounds like the tranny, was wondering if this sounds familiar to anyone. I guess I gotta pull the tranny, don't have my shop manual yet, so I was also wondering if I need to know anything about splitting the tranny, should I pull off one side over the other, are a million pieces gonna fall out on me, is there anything in there that is known to do this, maybe the chain??

if the chain is real loose it will slip under hard exceleration.be sure to check the teeth on the gears for wear and foward rolling.also check thebrake disc for loosness or loose brake shoes.

Update, it was the chain, gears were OK, it was stretched not broke, this tranny has no idler/ tensioner, which I think some do, and would have taken up slack as it was minimal, so $41 later I'm good to go, and even better yet, I got the quad for $400, so it ws a chance that turned into a score!

Take a close look at the shift forks while you have it apart and if they have any wear at all go ahead and replace.
