Default SP700 new tires: ITP 589's or Carlisle ACT's?

I give it to polaris for putting pretty good stock tires on their quads. The good year rawhides on the 02 700, the carliels badlands on the 04.5 sp 500, and the PXTs are all good stock tires, but if your going with aftermarket tires I agree and say go with something good. You get what you pay for and I hope I made a good investment with my XTRs.

My wife still has those OEM stock PXT's on her 2006 SP500. I'll have to watch them carefully.

Where was the flat - on the sidewall? On the face? I'm wondering where they are weak.

The initial puncture was right next to one of the lugs on the face of the tire. Riding back down with it going flat (filling it every couple of minutes with the electrical compressor we bring along) destroyed the rest of the tire. When all was said and done, there were so many gashes in the sidewall from crawling downhill with the tire going flat that it wouldn't keep any air in it anymore. I tossed the tire, but was able to count over 20 punctures in it between the sidewall and the initial puncture in the face. The part that bothered me was these tires were supposed to be so great, and in less than .3 hrs on the new machine, they were trash. The best stock tires that I ever had were on my 02 Sportsman 700 (rawhide grip), and they went over 300 miles without a puncture on the very same trails that did the PXT tire in.

Dieselisbe,

I have a story similar to yours. I was riding with a friend who had a Sportsman 800 with the PXT tires. I was on my maiden voyage with my suzuki vinson with the stock dunlop tires. After about 15 to 20 miles of riding mainly through small, sharp rocks, we noticied the left front PXT of the 800 was flat. My friend tried to ride out the last mile or two to our staging area with the flat and pretty well scraped up his rim. In the meantime, I'm getting through all this with my stock dunlop's, but know it's time for a change. A couple of days later, I purchased a set of terracross' for the vinson and am very happy with them. I have done that same rock infested ride 2 or 3 more times since then and the 25" terracross' have done beautifully. They handle well, ride smooth and show no sign of wear after 30 miles. They have also gone puncture free. Hopefully, I won't have to reply back with any bad news of cuts or tears in the near future.

the biggest problem w/ the pxt's are there only a 3 ply tire. where most of the bias are 6 ply and have stiffer side walls helps alot.
