Default What type of oil for my Polaris?

In my 2004 Magnum 4x4 it says I need Polaris Premium 4 Synthetic 0W40 oil.

What is 0W40 oil? Is that just regular 40 weight oil? Can I use a different brand of oil?

I just use Mobil 1 in mine. There are several non Polaris alternatives, but stick with synthetic and the proper weight.
