Default Front Diff Question....

Changing the front diff fluid on the 06 scrammy and the deealer told me to use the hub fluid. I just drained the front diff and it's a lot thicker than the polaris hub fluid. I dont want to mess anything up... This is the first change of the fluid since I bought it new. What is the correct stuff to put in there? Also, I usually stick with only polaris brand fluid, but it being sunday all my dealers are closed... what else can I use, if anything, that I can get at Wal-mart type store? Thanks!!

Default Front Diff Question....

I think they gave you the wrong stuff. The new sportsmans use the thin Hub flid in their diffs as thats where the AWD engages. The scrambler engages the AWD in the Hubs like the old sportsmans and thus has a traditional diff. It does use the polaris diff oil.

Looked out in my garage and I have a bottle for the rear diff of my sportman 700 and 800. Says "polaris front differential drive fluid"

Doesnt give a viscosity grade but says "High viscosity, film lubrication" on the bottle.

I poured some out and compared it to 80-90W and it smells the same and has the same consistency.

Like I said in my earlier post, the scramblers use the old AWD system, and thus the AWD engages in their hubs, and not in their diff. No plastic cage. They use gear lub in the front diff, not the hub fluid.

The scrambler does use hub fluid, in their hubs.

My old bottle of ATV drive hub fluid has the same part number as the ATV angle drive fluid (2871654). Like I said before it looks and smells just like 80-90w gear lube.

The new sportman twins have a diff in the rear, that isnt part of the trans like the 400 and 500s, and thus use the gear lube in the rear.
