The original tires work well here in the high desert of AZ, A lot of the fellas who go for the "technical" rock stuff will eventually change to a more rugged lug type.
We see a little snow, but not too much mud here ... it is ARID-ZONA after all.

I have had my X2 for just about a year now. I have 735 miles and about 60 hours on the stock tires. I have not had a bit of trouble with them. That being said, when it is time, I am going with the Bighorns by Maxxis. I live in the desert and do a lot of rock climbing and cactus scrunching. Just my two cents worth.

Incidentally, how are the carlies rated
for compared to like tires like Mud Lites?

In the automotive world the gauge by
miles, what kind of gauge is for off-road
ATV tires?

What I meant to say is what is
the expected life of the Carlisle tires?
And then compare that to something like
the MudLites.

Do we rate these ATV/off road tires
the same as our automobiles, mileage
based? It would seem to me that it
would vary individually, if someone rides
more dirt, gravel and rock I would suspect
more wear then those who trial thru woods
and mud (softer terrean)? Your thoughts?

I didn't have good luck with them, bought 3 for the front on my 99. Punctured sidewall on the front of the stock Goodyear Tracker P, replaced both fronts with 489, punctured again, bought one more 489, punctured one, then went with 6 ply or 6 ply-rated since with no problems yet. My PXT's off 06 are in the garage with very few miles and no puctures.

I think they suck and they are the only tires I have ever ridden on. They flex when you are sideways down in a hole and mud packs in the bead. the traction is rediculous - I went riding with a couple guys and they had much lessor machines with mudlites and went through more than I could. I'm not impressed

I am going for mudlite xtr's once spring hits
I not trying to compare them to Mudlites or any other after-market brand......Just want to know what riders think of them as offered as a Polaris "STOCK" tire. I know you can up-grade and spend money even before you drive the quad (EX.SCRAMMYTODD..LOL) But for a stock tire I think they are really well!!!...Caper......

Hey Caper - my intent wasnt just compare the 2 tires but to also say that I really dont like the stock tires and added the reasons why. I really think they are the weakest part of the bike - but everyone has thier opinions

the biggest thing about most stock tires like the 489's are they only have 3 ply side walls. wear is really depends on what you ride on. hard pack trails or roads really wear any tires down faster. the softer the compound of rubber the faster they wear out. kinda like of sport bikes w/ r compound tires are fairly soft and grip the road but dont get very many miles on them.

i beleave they do, not sure what all the brands are, but polaris does a pretty good job on putting decent tires on their bikes vs alot of the other brands. i think i read somewhere that carlise helped polaris develope their pxt tires.
