who makes the POlaris 2500 winch?
I just a Polaris winch on EBAY for 177 bucks - the one that retails for 399.00 - are these any good? anyone know who makes it? I almost bought a Viper for the same price until I found this one. I figured this would be better since it's prob made by warn and it's made specifically for sportsmans. what you guys think?

Like you Cap, I have helped friends,
and my family when my cousin got
stock in a pond with his 800. I had to
pull him out. When he continues to
Brag how great and muncho his
800 is, I remind him of that one
Spring day at GreenRidge.
Yes the Polaris Warn winch is great.
I do need to go with the synthetic
rope cause only with a few uses
has my steel cable kinked and frayed.
No toast yet but I suspect soon to
be, I even greased it, always held tension
on it while spooling it back in? Don't know!

Do you use a sling or strap when you hook your winch up to a quad or tree.......I never tie the winch cable around and clip back to the cable again!!!!!....This will cause it to kink and get damaged faster...................Caper.............I still looking for some good ****** BLOCKS to throw in the back storage if anybody in my group needs them!!!!!........

Good point Cap, yea I use my tow
strap for the bulk of length, loop it around
and attach the winch hook to the strap
hook. Yea, I read the instructions, but like
you point out alot of people don't do it, I
was constantly saying that to folks who I
trail with, I think they just think it such a
big powerful piece of machinery that it doesn'tt
happend? I don't know, but yea I would like
to have those blocks too, for the most part
I am able to use my tow strap for pulling others
out, good investment for $25 bucks.
I don't know maybe in one occassion I didn't
spool release and spin back in the right way
thus keeping tension on the cable.
My friend recommends me to use my winch
for a tie down on the trailer during transport.
I read the instructions about that too, cautions
against it these winches shouldn't have continueous
tensions/pull undue stress on the winch motor,
so I don't do that I just use my tie down straps
etc.

we use and hook to any thing there is to get out. ive hooked onto the cable w/ the hook w/no problems, but granted a nice strap would be better. i reel out my cable once in a while and hook it to a tree to keep it nice and stretched out. keeps the wire tigfht. the biggest thing i do to preserve my cable is to make sure when im doen whiching, its semi cleaned off and the cable is evenly wrapped on the drum and not all overlapping on it self in one place. this is hard on the cable. my .02

The nesw "POLARIS" winches are not warn winches as of late 2006. Polaris now has there own winch, which to me looks like an off brand. I don't think it comes with the lifetime warranty as the polaris/warn winches come with. These new "cheaper" winches are the ones that come with the delux packages. I belive it has an orange pull strap on the "polaris" winch and has a black wrinkle finsh compared to the warn's red pull strap and grey color. The new polaris winch does have a higher rated hp motor than the warn/polaris 2500#.
