i can do pretty much everything to my sportsman but it started stalling when i put it in drive/reverse and the dealer said it needs adjusting and said its pretty tough to do..i'm up to the challenge but i was wondering where to put the shims or if i get a new clutch kit will that fix it? i can figure most things out for myself but if i screw it up i know its gonna cost me and labor is about 70/hr now plus parts so i'm lookin for some input..thanks

it must be creeping a bit as well. i know on my my 02 500 i had i put a top cog 700 belt that took care of the creeping issue. there is washers that you can install that helps as well. if the ones there talking about is in the spider then yes they would have to do it unless you have a spider tool. i dont have one my self.

i did get a new belt for it, only because i shreadded the other one but it was oem..what is the creeping? is that when i get it into gear why it wont stop it keeps moving at about 1 or 2 mph

yea from the problem ur describeing it sounds like it might be the spider because mi moms p360 (kinda the same setup) did this....it would set good in nutral and when ud go to shift in to any gear it would grab and make the thing jump foward and stall out same with revers i could take and give the thing some gas and shift it and it would stay going but it would kinda spit and sputter and then pick up speed...had the shop change out he spider and it runs good

did you get another oem belt? the creeping is when it does jsut what you described. this is ebs engine brake model right. sometimes the ebs busing gets worn out and makes the bike creep. also when the belt isnt the right width(not take much to be off) the spider then has to be pulld apart and shimmed. this sometimes happens w/ the h/c clutch kit as well. (you dont have one)

how do you adjust the secondary clutch it looks like it just bolts on

I know for snowmobiles the belt should be about 1/8 of a inch sitting above the secondary clutch.......................It sounds to me you got a belt that is too tight!!!!...Caper.........
My sled too off at idle when the belt was new for a few miles.........Caper.....

yeah i got an oem belt, yes its the ebs, i'll try to find that bushing and see how it looks. what do new clutch kits do or what do they help with? or does it just replace stock with pretty much stock

the ebs busing is under the belt in the primary clutch. its what the groves in the belt ride on to slow down the bike when the clutch is disengauged. you might be able to put a shim or 2 in the secondary to help take the tention of the belt. w/ the ebs system there isnt very much belt deflection. w/ the cover off(and bike off) look at where the belt rides in the prim. clucth to see if its rubbing agaist the sheeves tight. if so then most likely the spider needs to be shimmed. also you said the belt got shreaded?why, is the clutches out of linement? something to think about.
