Default Warn winch cable

Howdy,,.

PA got hit again with 12+ inches of the beautiful white stuff... My glacier system was awesome.... until the winch cable broke.... 2 times. I have the warn 2500 that is prewires for the 06 SP700... Had to cut off about 4 feet of cable until I got to a good section before clamping. Anyone else have a problem with the cable breaking? I would hate to see if I was pulling myself out of a ditch or mud....

flip.......
That same thing happens to most of us.....From constantly wearing in the same spot on the roller the wire gets frayed then eventually breaks.....It happened to me so I switched over to synthetic rope.....I have a short 10-12 foot section that I run in the winter for plowing......If you use the full 50 foot like I use after winter, the rope wants to get pulled in towards the center of the drum.....So they have a shorter piece that works better for plowing......I got mine from Masterpull......I have noticed a slight bit of wearing and I've had the UHMW hawse fairlead but just switched back to the roller....You have to be careful using the synthetic with roller fairleads when pulling at extreme angles cause there's a chance it will get snagged in the corners....They suggest a hawse fairled when using synthetic but I know guys use rollers also.....The next thing I might try is a billet hawse if the wear continues....Hope this helps.

Default Warn winch cable

I called Warn yesterday and explained to them what happened. They said that plowing with the steel cable is a problem and will break as it gets flattened from using the same area of cable over and over. They have a solution.... A 8 foot piece of nylon rope for $30 and a larger bottom roller for another $35. Since the dealer knew I was going to use the winch mainly for plowing, you think they would have offered the add-on or at least warned me about the breakage. I guess it all boils down to the dealer/customer relationship..

Thanks for all the help on this....

I know many have frayed or broke cables but in 7 years have not broken one. Maybe I need more snow.... I WISH.

I heard somewhere that people where taking off their cable and spooling on the long half of a ratchet strap.I'm not sure if it works but for the price of the strap it might be worth trying.
