Default 2004 Scrambler front 4x4 engages

2004 Scambler 500 HO will engage right side only when 4x4 is off. All wheels turn great when turned on. Will go off but comes back on after a few bumps or slow down. Took a hit rt side replaced boot, now problem. I have good idea of the problem, any assitance?

That machine still has the hubs doesn't it? If so take the tire off and remove the brake caliper, take the three torks screws out of the hub cap, see if it's got oil in it , then take the cotter key out and the nut off the axle, there will be a bearing and the hilliard clutch, check to see that the clutch springs are ok, if so clean everything and put it back together and re-fill with the hub fluid and see if it works.Ive seen several just get dirty from not having the oil changed, clean them up and they work fine.

hey I've got an '01 and an '05 scrambler and I have had that same problem on the '01. what it is there are armatures that engage the four wheel drive system inside the hub that when they get worn they tend to engage themselves i snapped a yoke by letting it go to long. the part was only bout 5 bucks and it took bout 30 mins to do but i suggest to do both sides at the same time.. if you got a man. it will tell you how to get at them. its not hard at all .make sure you get the right juice for your hubs when you go to do this . any Q's.ill be glad to help.

Thanks Outlaw, Had ir apart to explore tonite. Cleaned it real well, works better. Still working an a manual. What is the best juice to put back in the hub, some said automatic trany fluid Type F. That was recommended for my 1997 Scambler

that would work but dont buy the cheap stuff. or you can get the AWD fluid at a polaris dealer. it is a little more pricey but its is the correct juice. make sure after assembley when you go to fill it back up, you know that drain plug in the side of the hub? make sure that it is in the 4:00 or the 8:00 o'clock position, and when it comes back out it is full. it comes out to be bout 4oz's i believe. if that fixes it cool, but if it starts doing it again i would shoot for the armetures next. good luck
