Default ATV and rain

A friend of mine is about to buy a Artic Cat ( tried to talk him out of it) from a dealer who stores them outside uncovered. We were wondering what effects rain and sun would have on seat life etc, it's a 06 so it may have been outside for 6 months or longer...

The sun will fade the seat and the plastics, but only after years of being out in the sun.

As far as the seat is concerned, all that time in the rain and sun, surely faded and dried it out a little. As for the rest of the bike, it could have started fading the plastics and any unpainted nuts, bolts, ets could have started rusting. Be sure to look for any rust on the frame as well. If it were me, I wouldn't buy a machine that started it's life outside.

i'ld want a damn good deal if its been out side all that time. of course the weather has an effect on how it will last like the seal and the fading of the plastic.

yeah even for a good deal I wouldnt ever buy one thats sat outside for that long , its hell on them sitting out like that , a local dealer does it here and has a 05 blaster thats left over outside and it looks worse than a kids 89 blaster that has been inside most of its life

If you plan on keeping it shedded for its life than I wouldnt want it If its sat out side. The same thing goes for riding an atv, getting it muddy and parking it. My friends 2007 sp 700 has 200 miles on it compared to mine with 4000. Underneath the whole thing is rusted and the paints all flaked off because I washed it for the first time the other day. Mine looks as good as new because I was it off before I park it.

thats a very true statement. leaving mud on is worse then just leaving out in the weather.

Stendori, you should see those 10,000 mile hondas when the cattle farmers bring them in covered in cow s?@t for their entire life.

I'm sure there's a fair amount of corrosion on the aluminum engine parts from sitting out that long.
