starter problem, Xpedition 425
#1
My starter on my Xpedition 425 is acting up. Sometimes you can hear it spinning but it takes a second or two for it to engage, other times you can hear it still spinning after it disengages.
Is there something I can do such as cleaning or lubricating that will help this problem?
PS....yes, it is a submarine quad.

Pfelect,
You can try removing the recoil hoising and spraying some lubricant on the gear drive piece. It can be taken out with the recoil out of the way. Clean it up and soak it with some type of penetrating oil. When you have it out make sure the inner piece spins in and out easily. If you clean it up and lube it itshould last awhile longer. Done this a couple of times before.

Ronnie,
ITs you bendix inside your recoil housing.. its gotten some swampwater in it and now its sticking. You DONT want to buy a new one unless you HAVE too... they are about 140.00.......
The Possum and the Mag both have had this happen..(I DONT KNOW WHY, I've NEVER rode them in water or mud)just do as others have said, I personally take the bendix out, and disassemble it.. Clean everything and re-assemble....
Good Luck...

Polaris makes a special grease just for this. It is supposed to be the very best thing for greasing up your starter drive, but as with any specialty product, isn't much good for much else. It is well worth it, though, if it saves a $140 part.
