....than the stock pipe that I had my 800 Sportsman. I bought a 800 header and exhaust shield kit for the MV and noticed some differences. My 800 sportsman was the boring individual pieces that resembled something like this. Now This thing looks very nice and should keep the heat away from the plastics, espescially with the black satin ceramic coating I had done to the header. I thought that I would share this info. The heat shield kit(shield and bolts) is P/N 2876048 and I paid $42 for it. If you want to find your own bolts, you could order just the shield with P/N 5250299-385(silver). The smaller shield in the pic above isn't in the kit, that is P/N 5244014 and it was another $4! Basically I am happy, I was worried about a little extra heat, but the ceramic should help that. Now with this shield, I should tape my water bottles to the pipe for a water cooler! Ok, I am just jokin'. I should be good though!

so your saying this wasnt on your 800 when you had it. you had smaller heat sheilds. ive been doing some reading where a guy had his pipe coated and didnt seem to help the extra heat that he feels on his leg. says that the 30 or what ever degrees didnt seem very noticable, makes me wonder if its worth it so let us know big guy when its done and running if you actually feel the differnce.

Feb 06 is when they upgraded the shields. In 07 they changed the 800 header to a two piece pipe. You will notice a bolt hole on the side of the shield at the back for this model. I recommend ceramic coating the shields as well and take some time to fit it, (drill and file if you have to) leaving about 1/4" of gap between it and the pipe. The washers that come with it are also coated to prevent heat from transferring from the pipe to the shield. I want to point out another important part of the shield installation is the re-shaping of the shifter rod. This is also important to gain additional clearance and hold the plastic away from the shield. This is complicated because both ends have "rod eyes" in them. When you bow it outward around the shield it wants to sag. It falls in front of the rear plastic when in high and then binds when you try and get it into park. It?s not a quick thing to adjust but there is a sweet spot. The instructions won?t tell you this but keep the shifter rod underneath the rear plastic when in high.
In 07 they changed the shifter rod to overcome this. May be an option worth studying....
