Default '99 300 Explorer starter...

Been a long time.....

Gotta problem with the 300. Starter won't engage. Battery's fine...any easy way to test the solenoid (and then, the starter itself).

'Bout $300 for a starter...if it's bad, probably just keep pull starting the thing. Thanks for any thoughts.

Default '99 300 Explorer starter...

w/ the key on, jump the 2 big wires on the solenoide and this will by pass the solenoide. if it starts the starter is fine.

Well, duh to me. Guess I should have thought of that, I can even jump directly to the downstream side from a spare (large) battery in the barn...as long as I can get to the darn thing. Can't get to the starter itself, very easily...

does the starter turn but wont engage? if so probably the bendix is shot, I know you can put new bendix in autombile starters but not atvs

Actually, no. Just a single "click" each time you press the starter button. Fan is strong, so I assume the battery's OK...

try new battery or if its a good battery w/ @ least 12.5 volts try the jump methord.
